HDB vs Condo Rental Move-Out Cleaning: What's Different?
Differences in scope, MCST-specific rules for condominiums, common corridor access, versus stuff unique to HDB units
For many, end-of-tenancy moving out cleaning seems pretty standard. Deep clean, aircon maintenance, the like. But did you know there are slight differences between moving out of an HDB unit versus a condo unit?
Here's a quick guide to all the differences between the two so you never have to check back and redo the cleanup – or worse, lose a part of your rental deposit!
HDB vs condo at a glance
| HDB | Condo | |
|---|---|---|
| Approval to move out | No MCST approval needed | Approval by MCST, forms to be filled in, deposit to be paid, have to adhere to move timings accorded by MCST |
| Weekends | Generally more flexible | Weekends may not be allowed to move in condo, check with MCST |
| Corridor-facing windows | For corridor units, corridor-facing windows can be cleaned on both sides | Depends on the unit's layout |
| Moving | Check lift dimensions, and ability to move large furniture | Check lift dimensions, and ability to move large furniture |
| Large item disposal | HDB gives 3 free per month – check with your town council | Large item disposal for condo must hire private and pay |
What's the same for both
- Exterior windows not cleaned – for safety reasons
- Aircon condenser on the exterior not cleaned as part of the standard clean (available as an add-on)
- Floors to be clean, kitchen hob, curtains dry-cleaned, etc.
